Q: How did you get into the sport?
A: A friend of mine showed up one day with a Liquid Force “Free”. We went out on his 1972 I/O and tried it, and the rest is history. That was ‘97.
Q: Do you compete?
A: I have competed since 1999. I think competition is good because it brings riders together at grassroots events and allows riders to meet people that share a common love for the sport. On the other hand, I don’t think competition accurately showcases a riders ability. Strict time restrictions and falls counting against you can make a rider hold back just to stand up a pass. You may never get to see what that rider can actually do.
Q: What is it you like about wakeboarding?
A: It’s a personal challenge. You get to push yourself, and the reward is landing that new trick after you’ve tried 25 times. Wakeboarding is also an expression sport that allows a rider to have his or her own style. Besides, what other sport can you do while you’re hanging out in the boat with friends and family, enjoying the scenery and soaking up the sun?

Q: What is it you love about wakeboarding?
A: The fact that wakeboarding is a solo sport in which your level of achievement is dependant on your own will. Yet at the same time, it is a social sport in that you can’t go out alone.
Q: What do you do when your not on the lake?
A: I’m a full time student at The University of Texas here in Austin, pursuing an undergraduate degree in physics. I intend on going to grad school. |
